PLANT NATURE:

The shrub has simple and alternate leaves. It belongs to the Phyllanthus Family. The plant produces pink flowers adn small, dark violet fruits resembling pepper.  The nutrient-rich berries are packed with vitamins and minerals. It is a hardy, climbing or straggling shrub native to tropical regions. It is highly regarded for its resilient nature.

SEASONS:

The species is native to tropical Asia, New Guinea, northern Australia, and the Solomon and Santa Cruz Islands. It has been introduced to Jamaica.

PLANT TYPE:

It is a straggling shrub grows upto 5 - 10 feet. it is a Bushy type plant. It adapts well as a hedge, potted specimen or ground cover.

TRADITIONAL VALUES:

It holds significant traditional value in South Indian Medicine and Ethnomedicin. It is highly regarded for its natural hair-darkening properties, medicinal roots and local ecological importance. The leaves promote healthy scalp. In Siddha and Regional Tribal Traditions the roots and leaves are applied as a Poultice to heal fractures, traumatic injuries and wounds. It prevents melanin loss. It acts as a nutritious fodder for livestocks, to help increase the milking capacity of cows.
