Jamun, also known as black plum, season is usually June to July, or with the start of rains, in north India.

PLANT TYPE:

Jamun is a tropical evergreen tree that is native to India, Ceylon, Burma, and the Andaman Islands. It is also found in Thailand, the Philippines, Madagascar, and other countries.

TRADITIONAL VALUES:

The fruit is used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine to treat diseases like diabetes. The seeds of the jamun contain jamboline, an anti-diabetic ingredient that reduces the rate of sugar release in the bloodstream. It reduces the systemic exposure of Sitagliptin and improves conditions associated with diabetes.
